Upgrading and modernisation of Castletymon Shopping Centre and its environs. This will involve improvements within and around the shopping centre and along the roadway from the new Library / Bancroft Park and Tymon Park / National Basketball Arena. South Dublin County Council, In conjunction with the National Transport Authority, is actively trying to develop an improved cycle network throughout the county. This new network is intended to provide more sustainable transport options for commuters as well as active travel benefits for local communities. The proposed route no. 27 of the Cycle South Dublin is the Castletymon Road Cycle Scheme. It will provide cycle connectivity from Greenhills's Road to Tallaght Main Street and has a length of 1.8m. Under this scheme South Dublin County Council proposed to construct 250m length of cycleway as a first stage of this network. This provides a better active travel link to Castletymon shopping centre, local amenities, NBA arena, schools, and parks within the length of the road. Scheme objectives: The Castletymon Shopping Centre District Centre Enhancement Programme has a number of objectives; To modernise and support local businesses; To enhance pedestrian and cycle facilities to and within the centre; To create links to and between the shopping centre, Bancroft Park and Tymon Park; To create more amenity space within the centre; To widen pedestrian areas in front of the shops footpaths; To combat anti-social behaviour; To modernise the look and support local businesses; To create a vibrant and distinctive place.
